President’s Volunteer Service Awards

After 20 years, the Niskayuna Community Action Program (N-CAP) has decided to suspend the President’s Volunteer Service Award program. N-CAP continues to encourage and honor volunteer service for the great value it brings to improving our community and for the self-esteem and resilience it fosters in our youth.

However, the number of participants has declined over time. Other civic groups, such as Girl Scouts, have stepped up to start their own volunteer recognition. N-CAP will shift its efforts to promoting existing volunteer opportunities and developing new programs.

Background: PVSA is issued by the President’s Council on Service and Civic Participation on behalf of the President of the United States of America. The award recognizes the best in American spirit and encourages all Americans to improve their communities through volunteer service and civic participation. The award is given to individuals who have demonstrated outstanding volunteer service and civic participation over the course of a 12-month period.
